Eid Mubarak!

Eid Mubarak to all blog visitors. Unfortunately, I was not able to update the blog during the month of Ramadan. Now that one of my regular clients is a news agency, I had daily deadlines to meet each day of the month and was quite busy. In some parts of the Muslim world, newspapers close down for the Eid and slow down considerably during the month of Ramadan. The fact is, however, that the news does not stop just because a segment of the population is fasting, tired, or otherwise busy - and the world in general keeps on moving. If you are working for non-Muslim clients, they might not be aware of just how tired you are, but you still need to do your best work. What field do you work in, and was your productivity affected in Ramadan? Did you adjust your schedule accordingly? Share in the comments section below!

Islamic Topics of General Interest

studentBMJ is a web site and monthly medical journal "for students with an interest in medicine." It's not a Muslim publication, but I really like the way one writer came up with the idea of writing an article on How Islam Changed Medicine for this journal. It is written for a general audience and would spark the curiosity of almost anyone interested in such topics.

Opportunities like this exist in almost every publication out there - from newspapers to magazines to web sites. Right now, for example, Learning through History Magazine (which is geared to homeschoolers) is seeking articles on the Mughal Empire. Check out their Guidelines for Writers for more specific information.

Have you ever written an article on an Islamic topic for a general audience? Let us know by leaving a comment.

What Could Have Been...

This is a cute blog-post written by someone who once started a magazine for Muslim girls:

MG Magazine

She also provides some critique of the new Muslim Girl Magazine that is making headlines all around the country.

Tasbeeh might still do a web-site (something like an e-mag), and she needs talented people to help her out. Sounds like another neat idea. If interested, read the blog post for more information.
